Fort William – A Day to Slow Down

Gooooood afternoon to my one loyal reader! 😂

We took a taxi from Inverness to Fort William this morning. Our driver was a very nice man who now lives in Fort William but is originally from Spain! He drove the curvy road like a pro and knew all of the good spots to take pictures or see fun things. He knew exactly where we could see some red deer and also explained how the canal has channels to raise and lower boats going from loch to loch.

Once we got to Fort William, we got checked into our hotel and then wandered High Street while we waited for our boat tour. We learned yesterday that a glen is like a narrow valley where two hills form a ‘v’ shape at the bottom. I thought it was fun and I hoped to get pictures of a sign or something with the word glen on it to send home to my Glen. Well, I found the perfect place.

The boat tour was fantastic! Gigi walked the pirate plank (a little metal boardwalk thing) just fine and we were off! We cruised around Loch Linnhe and our captain was hilarious. At one point, he stated a fact about the wheat and bio energy production in Scotland and immediately after, he goes “I don’t know if that’s true or not”. Haha the whole cruise had his commentary and it made it so much better. Gigi went inside pretty quickly because the wind was cold but mom and I spent a lot of the time outside. The best part was seeing the seals. We had to be really quiet and still so we didn’t scare them. But there were over 30 just chillin’ on their island. We also saw a decommissioned ferry that is now anchored in the loch and is used for diving and ROV training. We saw more deer and tried spotting a sea eagle but they were all hiding apparently. I got to video chat with Bug and Odie during the last part of the cruise so they got to see the boat.

After our cruise, we walked High Street and ate cakes in a cafe that was connected to a cinema. I am in LOVE with sticky toffee pudding but Mom doesn’t like that it’s mushy. We came back to the hotel and hung out in our own separate areas. It was time for a break from each other.

Oh! We also shopped at Tesco! It’s a grocery store haha so not anything weird but it was fun seeing the different stuff. I figured out that my headaches are from not having caffeine (I have a problem) so I got a Monster and solved my issue pretty quick.

We had supper at the restaurant that’s connected to our hotel. I had a steak and ale pie, which was like pot roast in gravy on a flaky biscuit/croissant thing. I also had a cider because I’m on vacation and they are tasty!

Mom got a salad and we almost died when she ate one of the pieces of lettuce or whatever it was. She did not like it and then had the predicament that we’ve all faced. Swallow the yucky food OR spit it out like a caveman? You’re just going to have to guess which one she chose 😂 but I will say that I tried it and it was good but I was like ooo it’s spicy! They didn’t know what it was so mom had to get her glasses out and do some salad investigation.

It is 10:28pm here and we are in bed without alarms set for the morning. Our train to Glasgow doesn’t leave until 11:40 tomorrow morning and we are sleeping in!
